Kendall Rae Johnson | Highlights and Updates

Source: AGDAILY

This article was published on April 4, 2024, and provides an in-depth look at Kendall Rae Johnson's remarkable journey as America's youngest certified farmer. The piece highlights her achievements, her family's support, and the impact of aGROWKulture on the Atlanta community.

Kendall Rae Johnson is the youngest certified farmer in the United States. At just 6 years old, she obtained her farming tract ID, making her a USDA-certified farmer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kendall's passion for agriculture began with propagating collard greens from her kitchen, inspired by her great-grandmother's wisdom.

Today, Kendall operates aGROWKulture, an urban farm in Southwest Atlanta with 60 raised beds, a high tunnel, and an observation deck. The farm's primary mission is agricultural education, emphasizing conservation and sustainability. Kendall is also the youngest child ever to charter a 4-H chapter and teaches at schools on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Kendall's accomplishments are remarkable for her age. She has sold approximately 500 bunches of collard greens at $6 each, along with sweet potatoes, corn, ginger, and honey. She is also a beekeeper in training and has received recognition from prominent figures including former First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris, who visited her farm.

In 2024, Kendall launched her debut book, 'I'm Growing Places,' an autobiographical picture book. She also organized the inaugural Dare to Care Earth Day Parade and Fair in South Fulton, uniting schools, farmers, sustainable organizations, youth, and adults for a day of festivities and education.

Kendall represents a significant voice in agriculture, particularly for marginalized communities including children, girls, women, and Black and African American people. According to the USDA, only about 1.2% of agricultural producers in the United States are Black/African American, and just 0.4% are Black/African American women. Kendall's leadership and achievements inspire others like her to pursue their dreams in agriculture.

Her advice to other young people is simple yet powerful: 'Keep growing. The world depends on you.'
