Welcome to the Deerwood Academy After-School Gardening Club to stay informed about our latest meetings, events, and gardening projects. Group Rules


Club Meetings

The Deerwood Academy Gardening Club helps students learn about agriculture, sustainability, and healthy food systems while working together to grow and care for our school garden. Club Meetings Meetings are held bi-weekly on Tuesdays, 2:30pm – 3:45pm. Students should attend regularly and arrive on time. Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Active participation in planting, watering, harvesting, and activities is expected.

Garden Responsibilities and Expectations

Meeting Expectations Follow instructions when using garden tools. Treat all members, teachers, and volunteers with respect. Snacks and water will be provided — enjoy them responsibly. Garden Responsibilities Planting: Help sow seeds, transplant seedlings, and care for young plants. Maintenance: Water, weed, and check plant health regularly. Harvesting: Share responsibility for picking ripe produce. Clean-Up: Always return tools and leave the garden space tidy.

Safety Rules & Leadership

Safety Rules Tools are to be used only as instructed. No running, pushing, or rough play in the garden area. Wash hands after gardening. Report any injuries or hazards immediately. Leadership & Learning Members will rotate roles such as: Garden Leader (helps guide group tasks) Tool Manager (checks tools in/out) Harvest Helper (assists with gathering produce) Note Keeper (tracks what was planted, harvested, or learned) Students will learn about plant science, sustainability, and healthy eating.

Sharing, Participation, and Club Values

Community & Sharing Produce grown will support school meals, student tastings, and community events. Families are encouraged to volunteer and join workshops. Respect the garden as a shared space — everything we grow is for learning and community benefit. Attendance & Participation Students should attend regularly. If absent, they may miss key planting or harvesting activities. Positive behavior is required to remain in the club. Club Values Respect — for each other, the garden, and the environment. Responsibility — take care of plants, tools, and tasks. Teamwork — gardening is best when we work together. Curiosity — ask questions, explore, and discover new things.
