Cultivate and Educate: Inspiring the Next Generation of Urban Agricultural Leaders
The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning is excited to partner with Kendall Rae's Green Heart, a non-profit organization founded by 10-year-old Kendall Rae Johnson, the youngest certified farmer in the United States. Kendall Rae's Green Heart empowers youth through STEAM-based agricultural education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable farming practices, with a mission to cultivate climate-smart leaders and healthier ecosystems.
Through this partnership, we are proud to present Cultivate and Educate Urban Farm Tours and Workshops, an innovative program designed to engage Atlanta’s residents and families in hands-on learning experiences in urban farms and community spaces. These tours and workshops aim to: Educate participants on farm history, management, and technology.
Explore connections between produce and by-products (e.g., tomatoes to ketchup).
Experience hands-on activities like soil science, hydroponics, and sustainable farming techniques.
The Cultivate and Educate Urban Farm Tours highlight the importance of local food systems, environmental stewardship, and the contributions of farms and farmers. By connecting urban farms to the City of Atlanta residents, this program builds pathways to learning and understanding while fostering a deeper appreciation for sustainability and innovation. Together, the City of Atlanta Department of City Planning and Kendall Rae's Green Heart are committed to creating opportunities to thrive, grow, and lead in shaping a greener, more resilient future for our communities and its food systems.
