4-H Community Garden Club at Deerwood Elementary
The 4-H Community Garden Club at Deerwood Elementary is a hands-on, after-school program designed to introduce students to agriculture, sustainability, and leadership through experiential learning. In partnership with UGA Cooperative Extension and 4-H, the program empowers youth to explore where food comes from while developing practical life skills.
Students participate in interactive lessons focused on gardening basics, plant transplanting, propagation, soil health, and the safe use of gardening tools. The program also integrates STEAM concepts, environmental stewardship, and teamwork, encouraging curiosity and confidence both inside and outside the garden.
The club meets weekly and provides a supportive space for students to learn responsibility, problem-solving, and collaboration while enhancing Deerwood Elementary’s garden area. Healthy snacks and water are provided, ensuring students can learn, grow, and thrive together.
Through the 4-H Community Garden Club, students gain early exposure to agriculture, sustainability, and leadership—planting seeds for lifelong learning and community impact.
