May 15th, 2026 | Deerwood Elementary School – Atlanta, GA
On May 15th, 2026, Deerwood Elementary School will transform into a living classroom of environmental action, joy, and discovery during the Captain Planet Celebration at Kendall Rae Johnson’s Kool Kids Grow Garden.
Hosted in partnership with the Captain Planet Foundation – Project Learning Grant and led by Kendall Rae Johnson and AgrowKulture Urban Farm, this event brings the legendary message of eco-heroism into real life—right in the heart of an Atlanta school garden.
Inspired by the spirit of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, students will learn that they are the Planeteers of today, with the power to protect, restore, and care for the Earth starting right where they are.

🌱 Who is Kool Kids Grow Farms?
Kool Kids Grow Farms at Deerwood Elementary School is a youth-led garden and learning program created under AgrowKulture Urban Farm, founded by Kendall Rae Johnson—one of the youngest certified farmers in the United States.
Kool Kids Grow Farms exists to:
🌿 Teach children how to grow their own food
♻️ Introduce hands-on sustainability practices like composting and recycling
🐝 Protect pollinators and restore natural ecosystems
🌎 Build environmental leadership in youth from an early age
📚 Connect STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, agriculture, math) to real-world farming
This is not just a school garden—it is a living, breathing agricultural classroom where students learn by doing, growing, and experiencing the natural world firsthand.
Kool Kids Grow Farms Experiences With Hands-On Learning That Sticks
One of the most effective ways to teach environmental responsibility is through direct experience. At the Kool Kids Grow Garden, students planted seeds, tended to vegetables, and built compost bins. These activities gave them a real sense of how ecosystems work and how their actions affect the environment.
For example, students learned how composting reduces waste and enriches soil, which in turn supports healthy plant growth. They also discovered how planting native flowers helps protect pollinators, which are essential for food production. These lessons were reinforced by the Captain Planet Foundation visiting Kool Kids Grow Farms at Deerwood Elementary, providing expert guidance and resources.
The garden becomes a living classroom where students could see the results of their efforts over time. This hands-on approach helps children develop a lasting connection to nature and a sense of responsibility for its care.

Building a Community of Young Environmental Leaders
The Captain Planet Celebration is more than a one-day event. It is a step toward building a community of young leaders who understand that small actions can lead to big changes. Students will leave the event with practical knowledge and a sense of pride in their role as environmental stewards.
Our organization has played a key role by supporting the students and continuing the conversation about sustainability after school during the garden club program at Deerwood Elementary School. The Captain Planet Foundation visiting Kool Kids Grow Farms at Deerwood Elementary will help create a network of support that extends beyond the garden gates.
This ensures that environmental education is ongoing and that students feel encouraged to take initiative in their own neighborhoods. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between schools, local organizations, and families in nurturing future leaders.
